DOT reminds Boracay establishments to follow regulations this holiday season

The Department of Tourism (DOT) has reminded establishments in Boracay to adhere to the new guidelines on the island, in line with the expected influx of tourists during the holiday season.

According to a report on GMA News TV's Balitanghali on Tuesday, the DOT reminded establishments in Boracay of the following regulations:

  • No fireworks
  • No smoking and drinking of alcohol in public areas
  • No littering
  • No illegal drugs
  • No excessively loud music
  • No structures and furniture within the 25+5 meter easement
  • No building of commercial sandcastle
  • No pets
  • No fire dancing

Following its reopening in October, tourist arrivals on the island resort have been limited to only 6,405 per day, as only 19,000 tourists will be allowed in Boracay at any given time.

President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the six-month closure of Boracay island to make way for its rehabilitation starting April 26.

The six-month rehabilitation of the island was recommended by the DENR, the DOT, and the DILG last month after Duterte threatened to close down the island after he described the tourist destination as a "cesspool." — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/RSJ, GMA News
