TD Usman leaves 1,000 passengers stranded
At least 1,000 passengers have been stranded at Ormoc port in Leyte due to Tropical Depression Usman.
According to a report by GMA News' Darlene Cay aired on Balita Pilipinas, the passengers were scrambling to have their tickets rebooked since trips were canceled in the whole of Eastern Visayas because of the weather disturbance.
Aside from the stranded passengers, at least 87 rolling cargos were not shipped as scheduled due to the canceled trips.
Likewise, Usman also stranded passengers and vehicles at the Surigao City port.
The situation at a bus terminal in Pasay City was no different, with passengers rushing to board every bus scheduled to have a trip to Iloilo. These passengers will ride buses which will be boarded on vessels that will sail for 24 hours.
For passenger Liezel, it is better safe than sorry.
"'Yun nga po eh, may bagyo raw, hindi pa naman ako marunong lumangoy,” she said.
Another passenger named Belen is also willing to wait in the name of safety.
“Eh sabi raw may bus...na [puedeng] chance passenger eh. Pagdating ko kahapon wala naman eh kaya bumalik ako ngayon,” Belen said.
"Kung ma-stranded kami, eh di maghihintay talaga kami na makauwi lang po kami,” she added. — Llanesca Panti/RSJ, GMA News
