7 killed in Calbayog, Samar due to Usman

Seven people died in Calbayog City, Samar, due to the effects of Tropical Depression Usman.

According to an Unang Balita report by Saleema Refran on Monday, victims died due to landslide in Barangay Cag-anahaw.

"May mga kahoy kasi, debris... nung bumaba 'yung tubig eh kasama. So 'yung mga bahay nila nasira," said Mayor Ronald Aquino.

"I-prioritize muna 'yung mga biktimang kailangang-kailangan... kagaya nga dito sa Barangay Cag-anahaw na ang sabi sa amin, nasa tatlo o dalawang bahay na lang ang nakatayo," said Bobby Catalan of the operations division of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).

The report also said more or less 4,000 families were affected in Oquendo District as landslide and floods destroyed homes of residents.

Usman brought heavy rains in the area, causing flooding in parts of the city until Saturday.

Several road sections were also not passable due to the floods:

• Catarman-Calbayog Road
• Lope de Vega Road
• Catarman Diversion Road
• Borongan Road
• Calbayog Road
