100 houses in Negros Oriental flooded due to overflowing river
Floodwaters from a swollen river displaced hundreds of residents in Negros Oriental on Friday night.
GMA News stringer Victor Camion reported that some 100 houses in Bais City were flooded as the nearby Talavera River overflowed due to continuous heavy rains from the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan).
Affected residents in Bais City's Barangay Poblacion 2 were preemptively evacuated as the river's water level was rising last Friday.
Authorities from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) said that rain was heavy in elevated far-flung areas of the city, causing the Talavera River to eventually overflow on Friday evening.
No casualty was reported due to the flood, the CDRRMC added.
Also, displaced residents were not allowed to immediately return to their homes, even hours after the floodwater subsided to ensure their safety. —LBG, GMA News
