NBI ordered to probe killing of ex-Cebu prosecutor

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe the fatal ambush of a former Cebu City prosecutor.

Guevarra said Friday that he has tasked the NBI to identify the killers of former prosecutor Mary Ann Castro as soon as possible.

Castro was shot dead by an unidentified assailant Thursday evening. She was allegedly driving her car along Escario Street, Barangay Kabutao in Cebu City when she was ambushed.

The police said the former prosecutor suffered at least five gunshot wounds on the body and one on the neck.

Cebu lawyers have condemned the killing and urged authorities to jail the perpetrators.

The police said they were looking into angles including personal grudge and work-related issues since Castro had supposedly prosecuted drug cases in the past. — MDM, GMA News
