Hundreds flee Davao floods caused by low pressure area
Severe flooding in Davao City, brought by the torrential rains of a low pressure area this week, has caused hundreds of residents living near the Davao river to flee from their homes.
According to a report on "Balita Pilipinas Ngayon" by RTV-One Mindanao's Argil Relator, the floods were neck-high in some areas.
Emergency responders conducted forced evacuation among residents living near the Davao river past 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday due to the river's fast-rising water level.
At least 420 residents were evacuated from the 7 puroks of Barangay Maa sought shelter at the Maa Elementary School SPED Center gymnasium.
Several residents were still not able to go home on Thursday even as the water began to gradually subside at 4 a.m.
Meanwhile, as many as 2,000 residents affected by the flooding in Barangay Bunawan at Barangay Lasang.
The water was neck-deep in areas like Purok 7-C.
Some residents were even seen at the side of the highway, carrying their belongings and heavy appliances, including a refrigerator and a washing machine.
Affected barangays remained on high-alert in case the water level in the Davao river shoots back up.
The risk reduction and management council said it plans to relocate residents living in flood prone areas. —NB, GMA News
