Laguna cop killed in buy-bust operation

An active police officer, allegedly a drug trade protector and pusher, was killed in a buy-bust operation in Laguna on Friday morning.

Law enforcement authorities identified the fatality as Police Officer 3 (PO3) Jennyson Serrano, 45, resident of Pagsanjan, Laguna, and was assigned at the Laguna Provincial Police Office.

An initial police investigation showed that at around 8:30 a.m., members of the Laguna Police Drug Enforcement Unit and from Sta. Cruz municipal police station conducted a buy bust operation in Sitio Ilang-ilang, Barangay Bubukal, Sta Cruz.

Operatives, the police report said, were able to buy five grams of suspected shabu worth P7,000 from Serrano.

But when the suspect sensed he was dealing with an intelligence operative, he drew and fired his service firearm at the cops. The team retaliated, killing Serrano.

The anti-illegal drug operation was conducted based on the validated report of a concerned citizen, the police said. —LBG, GMA News
