Man killed in hit-and-run by car racing down MacArthur Highway in Angeles
A man was killed while another was injured in a hit-and-run involving a car apparently racing with two other cars down MacArthur Highway in San Jose, Angeles City in Pampanga.
In a report on GMA's "24 Oras Weekend" on Sunday, CCTV footage showed three vehicles—a black car, a white car, and a white car with a black hood—seemingly racing each other along the highway.
Footage showed the white car with the black hood swerving in a cloud of smoke before righting itself and speeding away in what apparently was the moment it hit and ran over a motorcycle carrying two people.
The other two cars in the race also drove on.
The CCTV footage showed the two men who had been on the motorcycle lying on the street as the cars sped away. The rider, John Hervin Casas, was injured. His passenger Fernando Paginto, who was not wearing a helmet, was killed.
According to Councilor Edu Pamintuan, the car race may have started after an individual inside the white car challenged the two other vehicles to a street race, which is illegal.
"Sa stoplight po kasi ng Marisol, meron pong dumating 'yung itim, dumating din 'yung puti na kotse. Biglang bumaba sa kotse 'yung nakaputi... babae 'yung bumukas eh. Parang siguro hamunan o siguro magkaibigan po sila," said Pamintuan.
The driver of the black car surrendered and said that he did not know the occupants of the other two cars.
"'Yung isa po kasing naka-black na car, nagpunta dito that night, nung mismong insidente, at sinabi niya na hindi po nila kakilala 'yun," said Pamintuan.
The driver of the white vehicle with the black hood, Richmond Maliksi, has also surrendered and is now facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and serious physical injuries.
Families of the victims are now calling out for justice and demanding that the drivers of the other two cars turn themselves in. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
