Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe the murder and alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

In a Friday order, the Justice chief directed the bureau to investigate the killing of Christine Lee Silawan and file charges against those responsible if the evidence warrants.

The teenager's mutilated body was found in a vacant lot at Sitio Mahayahay in Barangay Bankal in the city on Monday morning.

The local government has offered a P1-million reward for information that would lead to the suspects behind the gruesome murder that has reportedly angered even President Rodrigo Duterte.

Guevarra ordered NBI chief Dante Gierran to report on the progress of the investigation and case build-up directly to his office. —NB, GMA News
