Two people were killed following an explosion in a suspected factory of improvised blasting caps in Sto. Tomas, Batangas, on Monday.

According to the police, a loud explosion was heard at Madison Garden Subdivision in Barangay San Roque at around 11 a.m.

The body parts of the still unidentified victims were seen scattered at the site and initial investigation points to the possibility that these belong to the couple who resides at the house.

A child was reported to have been injured and his relationship to the victims is still being established by authorities.

Nobody else was injured as the site is surrounded by uninhabited houses and vacant lots, the police said.

The blasting caps are presumably being used in illegal fishing activities, according to Police Colonel Edwin Quilates, head of Batangas Provincial Police, in an interview in Super Radyo dzBB.

"Napakadelikado kasi 'yung component ng blasting cap, high explosives talaga 'yan eh, na konting pagkakamali talagang sasabog. 'Yung sa backyard walang protective measures, precautionary measures so 'yun ang tinitingnan natin," Quilates said.
