4 dead, 8 others wounded in Negros Occidental bus crash
Four people were killed and eight others wounded in Negros Occidental when a passenger bus fell off a cliff on Tuesday.
GMA News' Vonne Aquino reported on Unang Balita that the rescue operation had to continue under darkness with rescuers rushing to save the passengers, fearing the bus would still slip down the bottom of the cliff.
An initial police investigation showed the Ceres Bus unit involved in the incident was coming from San Carlos City heading for Bacolod City when it fell into a cliff in Salvador Benedicto town.
Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head Don Don Parandas was quoted in the news as saying that the driver lost control of the bus and drove it against a barrier to stop it from falling into the cliff.
His plan didn't work, the barrier gave in, sending the bus slipping down.
The eight wounded, including the driver and the conductor, are being treated in the hospital.
Meanwhile, the bus company management promised to extend financial help to the victims, even as Bacolod authorities are doing a thorough investigation on the incident. —LBG, GMA News
