Amid the drawn-out dry spell, black bugs attacked farmlands planted with rice that were almost ripe for harvesting in a town in South Cotabato in the last few days.
GMA News reported on Saturday morning that black bugs attacked farmlands in Barrio Dos of Norala town, destroying rice plants beyond recovery, prompting farmers in neighboring barangays to harvest their crops early.

Farmers told GMA News that a moderate rain came days ago amid the dry spell, drenching the soil and creating a suitable condition for black bugs to come out and attack the rice plants. —LBG, GMA News
