Kidapawan Massacre may happen again due to impact of El Niño to PHL agriculture —militants
The Philippine Movement for Climate Justice (PMCJ), along with other militant groups, held a protest rally on Monday on the adverse impact of El Niño to Filipino farmers as they commemorated the third anniversary of the Kidapawan Massacre.
According to a report by Allan Gatus in GMA News TV's Balitanghali, the PMCJ said that the violent incident may possibly happen again because the government was not prepared for the effects of El Niño which has already scorched billions-worth of crops in different provinces of the country.
The protesters marched from the office of the National Housing Authority in Quezon City and held a program in front of the office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
The Department of Agriculture has recently raised the estimated cost of the agricultural damage caused by El Niño this year to P4.35 billion.
In 2016, the protest rally in Kidapawan City held by farmers hungered by El Niño led to a violent dispersal that claimed the lives of at least three militants and injured around 150 from both the sides of the protesters and police. —Dona Magsino/LDF, GMA News
