14 still missing from supermarket collapse —NDRRMC
Fourteen persons are still missing from the collapsed Chuzon Supermarket in Porac, Pampanga after the Magnitude 6.1 earthquake that hit portions of Luzon on Monday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) has said.
The NDRRMC said the search, rescue and retrieval operation continues even after authorities detected no more sign of life from the site.
"The SRR operation is still ongoing, and 14 persons are still missing as of now," the NDRRMC said in its advisory on Wednesday night.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III earlier said the search and rescue wouldn't be stopped because survivors could still emerge even after a week.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier ordered Chuzon supermarket to stop operations in the aftermath of its collapse due to the 6.1 magnitude earthquake.
The Philippine National Police said that rescuers are not detecting any sign of life in the Chuzon supermarket rubble.
"As of 6.45 p.m. na-last-panelling po nila sa life detector po na gadget nila. Wala pong na-detect. Pinaikot po 'yung K9, just to confirm po, ay wala pa rin pong na-detect," Pampanga police chief Police Colonel Jean Salvador Fajardo said. —Llanesca Panti/NB, GMA News
