A father who lost his wife and two children in Porac, Pampanga recounted Wednesday the painful memories of the magnitude 6.1 earthquake that jolted Luzon.

Jason Dela Cruz lost his whole family in an instant after the Chuzon Supermarket crumbled due to the quake.

He was supposed to shop with his wife Manilyn and two children—aged one and six—when the tragedy happened.

He was unfortunately not close to them to snatch them away from death as he was still parking his tricycle when the earthquake struck.

"Hinihintay nila ako kaya lang hindi ko po napatay 'yung makina... hindi pa ko nakapag-parking biglang yumanig na tapos biglang gumuho na 'yung gusali hindi ko na sila nakita," Jason said with a tone of regret in his voice.

His family came back to him as lifeless bodies after being extricated from the rubble.

"Mahal na mahal ko po 'yang mga 'yan. Hindi ko po sukat akalain na ganun kabilis mawawala," he said.

At least five people were reported dead in the incident while six were injured.

As of the latest update on Wednesday, rescuers at the site said they no longer detect any sign of life under the rubble.

Authorities are still studying possible charges against the owner of the collapsed supermarket which was supposedly built just two years ago. —Dona Magsino/LDF, GMA News
