Armed men kill bodyguard of vice mayor in Oriental Mindoro

Six armed men shot to death a bodyguard of the vice mayor of Victoria town in Oriental Mindoro on Saturday morning, two days before the midterm elections on Monday, May 13, 2019.

GMA News' Isa Umali, in a report on Super Radyo dzBB, identified the victim as Benjamin Alegria, 38, a resident of Barangay San Isidro of Victoria town.

An initial police investigation showed that Alegria was with three others on a Toyota Fortuner when six armed men, on a vehicle without a plate number, launched the attack on a highway in Barangay Villa Cerveza, Victoria, at about 10:15 a.m.

The suspects shot Alegria two times in the body and fled.

Police are investigating the incident to determine the motive for the crime and identify the suspects. —LBG, GMA News
