Former Health Secretary Janette Garin was proclaimed as the next representative of the first district of Iloilo province in the House of Representatives after winning in the May 13 local and national elections.

Garin was proclaimed winner by the Iloilo Provincial Board of Canvassers led by its chairman Attorney Roberto Salazar and vice chairman Attorney Marjorie Ann Tio-Manikan.

Garin was among the personalities in hot water over the government's controversial anti-dengue vaccination program that used Dengvaxia. It was during her term as Department of Health secretary when the vaccination program was first implemented.

In March, the Department of Justice indicted Garin and other personalities for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide in connection with the deaths of eight children allegedly due to the controversial dengue vaccine.  —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
