Son of Maguindanao massacre primary suspect Ampatuan becomes new Datu Unsay town mayor

Datu Aguak Ampatuan V, son of the Maguindanao massacre primary suspect Datu Andal Ampatuan Jr., rose to power after the mayor and vice mayor of a Maguindanao town both resigned from their posts.

According to a report on GMA News TV's State of the Nation with Jessica Soho on Wednesday, the winners of the 2019 midterm elections—Mayor Fuentes Dukay and his daughter Wanay Dukay—both stepped down from leadership for still unclear reasons.

Pursuant to the Local Government Code, Datu Aguak, who garnered the highest votes for town councilor during the recent elections, took oath as the new mayor of the town.

His father was also a former mayor of Datu Unsay.

Councilor Bai Janine Mamalapat  will be the new vice mayor. —Dona Magsino/LDF, GMA News
