Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Oscar Albayalde on Thursday said he has given the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM) at least a week to give an initial feedback about the spate of killings in Negros Oriental.

"Nagbigay ako ng direktiba to spearhead the investigation there. I gave them a minimum of at least a week to give initial feedback. Kung di ako magkamali, August 5," Albayalde told reporters.

"Di ko ine-expect na totally maano nila, ma-solve nila 'yung mga kaso but at least on the true picture on what is reason on the spate of killings," he added.

According to Albayalde, different task forces were also created to look into the killings.

"Kung sino namatay doon, there is a specific task force that will look into the death of that specific person," he said.

Asked about declaring martial law in the province, Albayalde said President Rodrigo Duterte has not mentioned anything about it.

"Wala namang indications at wala namang sinasabi ang ating Presidente on that. Walang sinasabi ang Pangulo na ganoon," Albayalde said.

At least 19 slays have been recorded in the province in the last two weeks. The number includes four police intelligence officers who were allegedly summarily executed by communist rebels.
