Suspect in kidnapping of newborn infant in Misamis Oriental arrested
The suspect in the kidnapping of a newborn infant in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental was nabbed on Monday night.
On Tuesday, police identified the suspect as one Richard “Junjun” Bernades, 20. He was arrested in his residence after a concerned citizen provided information about the identity of the suspect to authorities.
Initial reports said the infant was kidnapped early Sunday morning.
The incident was caught on CCTV. The footage also showed that the suspect was able to escape the birthing clinic.
Meanwhile, police said the baby has been returned to the mother.
Police Brigadier General Rafael Santiago, chief of the Police Regional Office 10, hailed the Gingoog police for the immediate arrest of the suspect.
"I will personally congratulate the police personnel of Gingoog City for their immediate action and untiring efforts to recover the infant and arrest the suspect," Santiago said. — RSJ, GMA News
