Angat Dam levels constantly declining since October 1 —PAGASA hydrologist

Angat Dam levels have been continuously declining since the start of October, according to PAGASA hydrologist Richard Orendain.

"From October 1 hanggang ngayon, patuloy ang pagbaba [ng water level sa Angat Dam]...Hindi buong watershed ang nauulanan. Part lang. Usually, mga 4 mm tig-24 hours iyon," he said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB on Saturday.

The last time when the dam experienced a rise in its levels due to rainfall, according to Orendain, was during the first two days of October.

"Kailangan kasi paabutin natin ng at least 212 meters at the end of the year. Preparation 'yun para sa dry season the following year," he said.

Orendain added that the projected level by the end of October should be 200 meters. As of 1 p.m. Saturday, the elevation level of Angat Dam was 187.26 meters.

The hydrologist's advice to the public is to conserve and recycle water, especially when watering plants and washing cars. He also encouraged the harvesting of rainwater.

Recently, PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio made a statement that the onset of the Amihan season—which usually begins in mid-October—would raise the water levels in Angat Dam—Angelica Y. Yang/KG, GMA News
