Davao families fear going inside evacuation center due to aftershocks
Only the downpour has forced families in Magsaysay town in Davao del Sur to seek shelter in the evacuation center for victims of Tuesday's earthquake.
According to a report by Raffy Tima on State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, about a hundred families have to be relocated after the 6.6 Cotabato earthquake because their homes were either damaged or flattened.
The families could not return to their homes because of possible landslides that might be triggered by the quake, the report said.
But the fear of aftershocks also made some families worry about staying inside a solid structure like the evacuation center.
The report noted that as early as 7 p.m., there were several people on the street. They remained outside because they felt that it was not safe to stay inside their homes.
Magsaysay, Davao Del Sur Mayor Arthur Davin decided to set up temporary tents for the evacuees.
"Naipadala [na ang mga tents] kanina sa OCD. Bukas itatayo namin para matuluyan ang mga bagong evacuees," Davin said, adding that several residents were afraid to enter other buildings like schools
The temporary tents would provide shelter for the evacuees as it would protect them from the heavy downpour of rain following the earthquake. —Angelica Yang/LDF, GMA News
