Residents of Albay were treated to the marvelous sight of Mayon Volcano’s perfect cone wrapped in a huge cloud formation.

Photos taken by netizens show what appears to be a two-level cloud formation in the shape of an umbrella resting atop Mayon.

The cloud formation is called a lenticular cloud.

According to the US National Weather Service, a lenticular cloud forms within the crest of mountain waves where the air is rising if there is sufficient moisture at the mountaintop level.

Lenticular clouds were previously seen over the Mayon Volcano in April and May. —Julia Mari Ornedo/LDF, GMA News
