PHL-Indonesian maritime training activity kicks off in Davao
The first maritime training activity between the Philippines and Indonesia started on Monday in Panacan, Davao, according to the military.
Lieutenant General Felimon Santos, commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command, led the opening ceremony of the five-day training event at the Naval Station Felix.
"It is imperative for us to keep up with the everchanging maritime security environment and develop more robust approaches in addressing maritime security," Santos said.
The maritime training activity will be joined by personnel from the Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM) and members of the Indonesian Second Fleet Command.
With the aim to develop the readiness of both naval forces in addressing maritime security concerns, the exercise will include naval doctrine discussion, tabletop exercise as well as open sea drills and maneuvers.
The military said four naval ships would be utilized during the exercise. The NFEM deployed BRP Apolinario Mabini and BRP Liberato Picar, while the Indonesian forces will be using its vessels KRI Layang and KRI Pandarong.
The maritime activity will end on November 30, the military said. — Anna Felicia Bajo/BM, GMA News
