1-year-old Lapu-Lapu City boy drowns after falling into sea

A one-year old Lapu-Lapu City boy drowned after accidentally falling into the sea, according to a Saturday report by Ivan Mayrina on GMA News' 24 Oras Weekend.

According to the Dexter Berdon's mother Agnes Estomago, she left the sleeping Berdon with his three-year-old, five-year-old, and seven-year-old siblings to bring her sister, who was about to give birth, to the hospital.

"Natutulog kami dito. Hindi ko napansin na 'yung bata kong kapatid nagising tapos dala na niya 'yung isa ko pang kapatid nadali niya. Pagtingin ko, wala na siya," Charice Tampus, sister, said.

"Ayun po, namatay po siya," Berdon's brother, Danilo, added.

Berdon was brought by his sibling to the back portion of their house, where the one-year old fell through the bathroom which was connected to the sea. The child's body was fished out of the water by his cousins.

"Humihingi po ako ng tulong dahil wala po kaming pera. Wala talaga akong pera ngayon pampalibing ng anak ko," Estamago said.

Estamago did not have a job while her husband did not have a permanent occupation.

She then went to the office of Lapu Lapu City Mayor Junard Ahong Chan who gave her burial assistance as well as allowance from his personal funds.

"Kami na lang po magbabayad nito. Kami na po ang bahala," Chan said. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
