Transmission tower, gas station in Batangas affected by fissures
A transmission tower and a gas station in Batangas were some of the structures affected by the fissures caused by the continued activity of the Taal Volcano.
In a 24 Oras report by Raffy Tima on Monday, a gas station supervisor said the fissures are likely to cause a leak.
The fissure passed straight through one of the gas station’s pipes.
“Nandito ‘yung mga pipe sa gitna mismo... kaya hihiwalay, wala, magkakaroon talaga ng ano yan, ng leak,” said JP Quilaton.
Quilaton said a portion of the gas station in Lemery, Batangas rises day by day due to the fissures.
He added that he encouraged the gas station owner to transfer the fuel to a different branch to avoid a possible explosion.
Meanwhile, a transmission tower of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) was also affected by the cracks caused by volcanic activity.
The tower is near the Pansipit River in Taal.
A drone video showed that the foundation of one of the towers has already sustained cracks.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) assured the public that the tower is not at risk of collapsing since it has four foundations.
The DPWH also continues to repair roads in Lemery affected by the fissuring.
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) officer-in-charge Undersecretary Renato Solidum earlier explained that the fissures are caused by the rising of magma to the surface. — Julia Mari Ornedo /BAP, GMA News
