COVID-19-free Obando town in Bulacan enforces total lockdown

Despite not  having any case of the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) Obando, Bulacan has enforced a total lockdown in an effort to keep the virus away from its people.

According to Mark Salazar's report on 24 Oras Tuesday, only medicine and food supply were allowed entry in the area.  Residents of Obando who leave will no longer be allowed entrance.

Obando's neighboring areas have already reported cases of COVID-19.  As of Sunday, the Bulacan Provincial Health Office reported 18 positive cases and seven fatalities due to the virus.

At the boundary of Obando and Valenzuela City, even delivery of live pigs aiming to pass through to Malabon was denied entry.

According to the report, individuals allowed to enter must pass a temperature check and undergo a disinfecting spray at the boundary.

In a statement, Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian said their hospitals remained open to residents of Obando despite the lockdown.

"Valenzuela fully respects Mayor Edwin's (Santos) decisions to seal off Obando from Valenzuela. I'm sure he has nothing but your best interest at heart when he made this decision," Gatchalian said.

"[I] Just wanted all of you to know that our hospitals remain open to your needs if the urgency arises," he added.

According to the report, Obando presently has sufficient supply for its residents and that the local government will prioritize keeping the city COVID-19 free. —Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
