About 200 individuals arrested in Cavite for violating ECQ
Security forces from the Armed Forces of the Philippines apprehended almost 200 individuals for allegedly violating the enhanced community quarantine in Trece Martires, Cavite.
According to Jun Veneracion’s report on 24 Oras News Alert, the arrest came after Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla asked members of the military to assist in implementing the quarantine in the province as there were still residents who continue to violate protocols.
In his initial report, Veneracion said about a hundred people were arrested. Later in his report on Super Radyo dzBB, he updated the figure to be almost 200.
AFP’s combat unit searched markets and the relocation site together with the Cavite Philippine National Police to arrest those who are not following precautionary measures amid the ECQ.
Residents who were caught outside their homes were also nabbed and were brought to the provincial capitol, the report added.
Some individuals appealed, saying they were only outside to buy food.
Remulla, however, said those arrested will be sent home within the day.
Meanwhile, individuals who will get arrested anew will have to face overnight detention.
The province of Cavite has so far recorded more than 25,000 quarantine violators.
Earlier, Remulla said he asked for the AFP’s assistance because they would be stricter in asking quarantine passes of Cavite residents.
He added that enforcing a stricter social distancing in public areas such as markets would also be observed.
Meanwhile, policemen would else enter subdivisions to ensure residents are following the guidelines of the ECQ.
The Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine imposed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is in effect until April 30.
