Commuters in provinces also struggle with limited public transport

Commuters in the provinces also suffered difficulty moving around even after some modes of public transportation have been allowed after the easing up of community quarantines.

According to Marisol Abdurahman's report on "24 Oras" on Tuesday, Cebu City residents still struggled to get to their destinations due to the lack of public transportation.

Among them was Jacquelyn Vergara who had to catch a free ride from the barangay so she could buy necessities for her family.

Currently, only 77 buses were allowed to resume operations in the city.

Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board 7 regional director Eduardo Montealto Jr. said jeepney operators had to secure a special permit before they could resume operations.

In Bangued, Abra, only tricycles and buses were allowed to operate. However, buses are only allowed to travel inside the Cordillera Administrative Region.

In Cavite, several workers were stranded on the first day of the GCQ due to the limited number of buses.

Meanwhile, in Baguio City, around 500 jeepneys and 300 taxis were allowed to ply the streets on the first day of the modified GCQ on Monday.

To ensure social distancing is observed, passenger load for jeepneys should not exceed 50 percent. -NB, GMA News
