Motorcycle-riding assailants shoot father, son dead in Laguna

Armed attackers on motorcycle shot father and son to their death in Famy, Laguna province, southeast of Manila, according to the police.

A GMA News' "Unang Balita" report on Thursday identified the victims as Rex Capistrano and his son Pete Lance.

An initial police investigation showed that Rex was in his car near their house when the attackers on motorcycle came and shot him at close range. Pete tried for a rescue but he was shot at, too.

The assailants immediately fled the scene of the crime. The victims were rushed to the hospital, but were declared dead upon arrival.

Rex's family had declined to make any comments on the incident. But said they were puzzled why there were no cops around at the time, as the police station is just near their house. 

In defense, the police said their personnel were manning a quarantine checkpoint in the area when the shooting incident took place, the report quoted the police as saying. 

According to the report, Rex ran for vice mayor in Famy town during the 2016 elections, but lost.
