Laguna teacher barters projector for ink, paper to print modules for kids
A teacher has bartered her five-year-old projector for a ream of bond paper and some printer ink to be able to produce learning modules for kindergarten students in San Pedro, Laguna.
According to Oscar Oida's report on "24 Oras" on Thursday, Edelyn Nicol traded her most valuable projector to help students in her community as the country transitions to online learning amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Ang target ko po ay mga kinder, mga magsisimula pa lang mag-aral para ma-encourage silang pumasok," Nicol said.
"Tapos nagbigay po ako ng infographics na kung sino 'yong mga may gusto na mga magulang na willing turuan kanilang mga anak sa bahay at magbibigay po ako ng mga libreng booklet sa kanila," she added.
Nicol is a high school teacher but said she felt like it was still her responsibility to reach out to other students amid the pandemic.
“Kasi po noong maliit pa po kami, I think I was high school noon, sa squatter area po kami before, may mga bata po doon na nagti-teacher-teacher-an lang tapos ngayon mga college graduate na rin po sila so sabi ko effecitive ‘to na kapag may nakikita silang isang tao na tumutulong sa kanila, nandoon ‘yong will nila na ‘ay balang araw ganito rin ako,’” she said.
Nicol said all her sacrifices were worth it because she was able to help out many students and parents.
“Masarap po sa pakiramdam na nakakatulong. Kung kaya ko nga lang pong tumulong pa doon sa mas malaking community kaya lang limited po ‘yung resources eh," she said. —Ma. Angelica Garcia/LDF, GMA News
