Rains bring floods, rockslide in Mindanao
Several areas in Mindanao were badly affected by the rainy weather, including Digos City which sent children scampering to a higher ground as water gushed that nearly swallowed the Canos River.
“Ang lakas ng tubig, as in. Tumataas pa rin ang tubig o so huwag tayong mag kumpiyansa kasi tumataas pa siya. Maabutan na ‘yung semento mamaya. Matatabunan ng tubig. Mataas na siya,” video uploader Arve Lopez said on Dano Tingcungco’s report on “24 Oras."
“‘Yang portion ng dike nasira na ‘yan nu’ng unang baha. Kapag umabot diyan ang tubig, Diyos ko Lord, baha ulit,” Lopez said.
The rise in the water level have raised fears among the residents living nearby, forcing some to evacuate to safer areas.
PAGASA said the rain in Digos City was caused by the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
Meanwhile, strong rains in Kidapawan City almost caused zero visibility. PAGASA said localized thunderstorms as well as ITCZ caused the rain in several areas in Cotabato.
A truck which was deployed to rescue cars stuck in the mud also found itself in the same situation in South Upi, Mindanao due to the rain.
In Tadian, Mountain Province, the cleaning operations of a portion of the road blocked by rockslides took three days due to periodic rains. —Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF,GMA News
