Bacolod locals mob New Gov't Center over financial assistance rumor
Residents of Bacolod City flocked to the New Government Center in hopes of receiving additional financial assistance but were dismayed when it turned out that there was no additional assistance being given out.
According to a report on GMA's "24 Oras Weekend" on Sunday, the residents were reported to have received information that the local government would provide additional financial assistance to those who came.
Authorities were unable to control the massive crowd that showed up, despite the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) in place over the city.
Information on the financial assistance rumor was sketchy, though the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) emphasized that they did not release any advisory on additional aid.
The local government also clarified that the financial assistance program only catered to a hundred people a day to avoid crowding.
The financial assistance program was temporarily suspended because of the incident. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/DVM, GMA News
