IEDs allegedly owned by NPA found in Surigao del Sur, says military

A civilian found five improvised explosive devices in the municipality of Lingig in Surigao del Sur on Friday, the Philippine Army said on Saturday.

The Army's intel operatives from the 67th Infantry Battalion (67IB) and 104th MICO then went to the site and recovered the IEDs weighing one kilogram each.

The IEDs were allegely owned by the New People's Army's Front North, Sub-Regional Committee 1 of the Southern Mindanao Regional Command, the Army said.

Lieutenant Colonel Louie Dema-ala, battalion commander of the 67th IB, said the discovery of the IEDs "is an indication that NPA's firepower and strength is decreasing."

He added that the discovery of the IEDs also "clearly shows that they are still creating violation on Comprehensive Agreements on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL). —KG, GMA News
