Authorities on Thursday arrested a murder suspect in Barangay Matampay, Marawi City.

The Philippine National Police - Anti-Kidnapping Group on Friday identified the suspect as Michael Estanol, who was allegedly involved in the killing of a certain Ernesto Rementizo in 2018.

His arrest warrant was issued by Honorable Giovanni Alfred Navarro, presiding judge of Regional Trial Court Branch 27 of the 12th Judicial Region in Gingoog City. No bail was recommended.

Police said the suspect was allegedly involved in kidnap-for-ransom group Ibrahim Langco Salic, which was supposedly responsible for kidnapping activities in Lanao and Marawi.

He had been linked to gun-for-hire and robbery-extortion activities in Gingoog City and other municipalities.

Authorities said the group had been targeting wealthy businessmen in the Mindanao region.

The suspect was brought to Marawi City Police Station for booking procedures and tactical interrogation.  —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
