Newborn found abandoned near Laguna river
A newborn wrapped in a towel was found abandoned near a river in Barangay Calumpang in Liliw, Laguna.
According to Lei Alviz’s report on “24 Oras Weekend," one of the men who found the baby said he was resting under the shade of a tree when he heard the newborn’s cries.
“May naririnig akong bata na umiiyak pero hindi ko pinansin. Parang sabi ko parang tinatakot nga lang ako o namamaligno lang siguro ako… Tuloy-tuloy pa rin ‘yung paglalaro ko sa cell phone,” Wilson Tubangbanua said.
Tubangbanua said he later grew confused when the cries continued. Another man who was supposed to clean his tricycle later arrived and also heard the cries.
Due to this, the pair decided to look for the source of the sound.
On finding the abandoned newborn, they immediately sought help at the barangay hall.
The police officers who responded to the scene brought the newborn to the Nagcarlan District Hospital. The infant girl is in stable condition.
Authorities are still looking for the person who abandoned the newborn. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
