Group saves 37 dogs from mercy killing in Bulacan

An animal welfare organization saved 37 dogs from mercy killing at a pound in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.

According to Mariz Umali’s report on “24 Oras” on Wednesday, the dogs were set to be euthanized unless people adopt them.

“These dogs are actually scheduled for euthanasia and it’s a fact in all pounds kasi as per the law, mayroong three days to one week ‘yong mga nai-impound na dog sa pound bago sila i-euthanize. It’s because of the lack of funds and the limited space kung walang mag-a-adopt or rescue,” Pawssion Project Founder Malou Perez said.

“They’re really asking for help. Sobrang kawawa because number one, they’re stray, it’s not their fault that they’re out there. It’s not their fault na wala silang pamilya, wala silang bahay,” she added.

Perez said Pawssion Project was able to collect money for the adoption of 37 out of the 83 dogs in the pound.

She said the 37 were all they can save at the moment as they do not have enough space in their shelter.

Meanwhile, the local government called on the public to adopt the remaining dogs as they deserve a home.

“As much as possible kasi nakokonsensya kami, mahilig din kami mag-alaga ng hayop, ayaw namin hangga’t maaari na pumatay kaya hinihikayat pa rin namin, hindi lang ‘yong mga kababayan namin, pati na rin from other places na sila na mag-alaga ng aso. Ibibigay namin sa kanila ng libre,” San Jose del Monte, Bulacan Mayor Arthur Robes said.
