Magnitude 5 earthquake rocks Batangas

A magnitude 5 earthquake struck Batangas provinces on Thursday afternoon.

The earthquake -- earlier recorded at magnitude 4.5 before the upgrade and was tectonic in origin -- occurred at 1:25 p.m. with the epicenter at 13.75°N, 120.87°E - 008 km N 88° W of Mabini town, PHIVOLCS said. Its depth of focus was 002 km.

The quake was felt at Intensity IV in Mabini, San Luis, Lemery, Rosario, Agoncillo, Calatagan, Balayan, Bauan, Sta. Teresita in Batangas; and in Tagaytay City, Alfonso and Amadeo in Cavite.

It was also felt at Intensity III in Batangas City; Malvar, Talisay, Tanauan, Alitagtag Batangas; and San Pablo and Laguna; and Intensity II in Quezon City; Mandaluyong City; Navotas City; Majayjay, Laguna; Dolores, Quezon.

Intensity I, meanwhile, was felt in Malabon City; Pasay City; Talisay, Batangas; Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

Instrumental intensities, meanwhile, are the following:

  • Intensity IV- Calatagan, Batangas; Tagaytay City
  • Intensity II- Muntinlupa City; Dolores, Quezon
  • Intensity I- Quezon City; Carmona and Bacoor City, Cavite; Mauban, Quezon; Talisay, Batangas
