OVP's ‘BAHAYanihan’ housing project breaks ground in Albay

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) and its partners begun constructing homes for Albay residents who were displaced by Typhoon Rolly, which ravaged the province last month.

Vice President Leni Robredo said that these first homes being constructed in Guinobatan on Saturday were being built under the “BAHAYanihan” housing project, which was launched last December 1.

“Pagod ang team pero masaya. We hope the families who will rebuild their lives there will be happy, now that they’ll be on a safer area,” she said on Twitter.

The OVP also said the residents themselves would take part in construction activities to foster the “bayanihan” spirit.

“Sa BAHAYanihan, hangad natin na mabigyan ang mga pamilyang nakatira sa danger zones ng pagkakataon na makabangon muli sa mas ligtas na lugar,” it said.

In an earlier episode of her weekly radio show, Robredo said the OVP partnered with the local government of Guinobatan for the project.

BAHAYanihan was funded through donations raised by the OVP’s partner, the “Kaya Natin” Movement.

Robredo previously said Albay residents were seeking donations of housing materials to rebuild their homes.
