Video shows Calbayog mayor's van ripped by bullets minutes after it hit bridge rail

A video obtained by GMA News showed at least one gunman shooting at the van of Calbayog City Mayor Ronaldo Aquino even after its occupants already appeared lifeless at the side of a bridge when the incident happened last week.

According to Mariz Umali's report on "24 Oras", there were people who were trying to help someone inside the van when armed men approached. A man in shorts went near the vehicle and gunshots rang, sending onlookers running.

The National Bureau of Investigation has sent a forensics team to the city to investigate the incident which police said was a shootout between the mayor's team and members of the local police.

Aquino's loved ones believe the mayor was targeted for execution, an allegation that the PNP has already denied. -NB, GMA News
