Tricycle driver's version of community pantry: Free ride in Sorsogon neighborhood

A tricycle driver in Sorsogon has come up with his own version of a "community pantry," but instead of giving out free food supplies, he gives out free rides in their neighborhood.

From 9 a.m. to 6 a.m., Mang Romeo plies the streets of Barangay Poblacion offering his "community ride" to commuters, according to a report on 24 Oras on Friday.

"I've been feeling differently ever since I started helping others. Before this, my body would ache from a full day's driving. But since I started my community ride and with God's conviction, I no longer suffered from body aches," he said in Filipino.

Kimberly Doma, who uploaded a video of her free ride on Mang Romeo's yellow tricycle that has since gone viral, said she was surprised when Mang Romeo refused to take her fare.

"Then he [Mang Romeo] began shedding tears. I felt he was really sincere in helping others. That's important because we should appreciate everything no matter how big or small, especially during this pandemic," Doma said in Filipino.

Doma said she plans to convince his father, also a tricycle driver, to offer a similar community ride. She said she was willing to shoulder her father's fuel expenses. -MDM, GMA News
