Liquor ban imposed, curfew adjusted in Cebu City
Cebu City ordered a liquor ban and adjusted the curfew for the month of July following a rise in the number of COVID-19 cases.
In Executive Order No. 136, Acting Mayor Michael Rama said the liquor ban will be in effect in all public places in Cebu City for one month effective July 25.
“It shall be prohibited for any person, including owners and managers of hotels, resorts, restaurants, convenience stores, sari-sari stores and other establishments to serve and/or drink intoxicating liquor in any public place within the City of Cebu,” the EO read.
Exempted from the liquor ban are hotels, resorts and other accommodation establishments who will serve liquor to in-house guests.
Meanwhile, the curfew in Cebu City will be from 10 a.m. to 4 a.m. the next day, beginning July 25. This is earlier than the previous 11 p.m. start of curfew.
The EO said exempted from the curfew are:
- authorized persons outside of residence (APORs);
- workers in business process outsourcing firms;
- workers in other industries such as food and essential deliveries allowed to operate during curfew;
- health workers; and
- workers in government agencies providing frontline and emergency services.
The measures were put in place after a steady increase was noted in the number of COVID-19 cases in Cebu City.
On July 24, a total of 308 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Cebu City, driving up the total number of infections to 2,009.
Cebu City is under modified general community quarantine until July 31. —KG, GMA News
