Mother, nine-month-old baby hit by car after driver fell asleep
A mother and her nine-month-old baby were thrown off the road in Catbalogan, Samar after they were hit by a driver who fell asleep, according to Marisol Abdurahman’s report on “24 Oras.”
Based on the CCTV footage, the victims had just disembarked from the tricycle when a vehicle hit them head-on in front of the headquarters of the Catbalogan Police.
“Pauwi na sila ng barangay nila, eh na-timing, bumangga,” Police Lieutenant Colonel Francisco Sumpo Jr. said.
“Mga bugbog na part doon sa may bandang paa. ‘Yung anak siyempre may mga gasgas silang dalawa. ‘Yung anak parang may bukol pero na CT scan naman sila, okay naman so far ‘yung result,” he added.
The car also hit a tricycle, which was damaged.
Meanwhile, the driver admitted to the Catbalogan Police that he fell asleep.
“Kasi galing silang Manila paputang Cotabato. Siguro kulang ‘yung tulog niya o hindi pa nakatulog. Inamin niya na naka idlip ata,” he said.
The mother was discharged on Tuesday. However, the baby remained confined for monitoring.
The driver was also released after he pledged to pay for the victims' hospital bills and to have the tricycle repaired.—Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
