Medellin, Cebu Mayor tests positive for COVID-19

The mayor of the town of Medellin in Cebu has disclosed on Monday that he tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently in isolation.

"I expected this to come some day because of our constant exposure and nature of the job," said Mayor Joven Mondigo Jr. in a social media post.

He added that he has been in isolation since Thursday his Rapid Antigen Test came out positive. He underwent an RT-PCR Test for confirmation.

"My symptoms are mild and I am okay. I am grateful to b fully vaccinated. Thus, I encourage everyone to get vaccinated in the soonest time possible. Vaccine works, a lot," said Mondigo.

The Office of the Mayor has been temporarily closed for disinfection, he adds, and to the people he was in contact with in the past few days were advised to self-isolate and have themselves tested if they develop symptoms.

"In spite of this hurdle, I will continue to function as Mayor virtually while in isolation and I am in close coordination with our local officials, barangay officials, the Medellin IATF members, department heads and untiring frontliners," the mayor added.

The COVID-19 vaccine education program will continue as planned as safety and health protocols shall be strictly observed.

"Let us be reminded that we are still in the middle of a pandemic and let us all be vigilant and meticulous in observing all health and safety protocols under GCQ with heightened restrictions," Mondigo added. -- BAP, GMA News
