Hazing resulting in homicide complaint filed vs PNPA cadet

A complaint for violation of the Anti-Hazing Act resulting to homicide has been filed against the suspect behind the death of a cadet at the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), its public information office (PIO) said on Monday.

PNPA Public Information Office chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Louie Gonzaga told GMA News Online that suspect Cadet Second Class Steve Ceasar Maingat was brought to the prosecutor for the filing.

“Dinala na po ng ating  kasamahan from Silang Police Station yung ating suspect, si Cadet  Maingat, sa prosecutor’s office for the filing ng sinampa nating kaso,” he said.

At about 11:20 a.m., the e-inquest proceeding was attended by the mother of victim Cadet Third Class George Karl Magsayo, Caroline Hocoy Magsayo, with their private counsel Atty. Leo Angelo Sagario.

For the respondent side, it was attended by Maingat, represented by his private counsel Atty. JG Udarbe, the PNPA PIO said.

Based on the official death certificate, the PNPA PIO said the cause of death of Magsayo was “cardio-respiratory arrest; exact cause of death to be determined.”

On Thursday, Magsayo, 21, died after being allegedly punched a number of times by his upperclassman Maingat.

Magsayo and his companion supposedly went to the room of the suspect, identified as Cadet Second Class Steve Ceasar Maingat.

Maingat cautioned both the victim and his companion but a few moments after, he allegedly punched the victim five times in the stomach, according to the investigation.

Magsayo lost his consciousness and was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival at 6:43 p.m., police said. -NB, GMA News
