More than average rainfall for a month fell on Benguet in 24 hours
State weather bureau PAGASA had recorded above average rainfall for one month at Benguet in just 24 hours during severe tropical storm Maring's onslaught.
According to Ian Cruz's "24 Oras" report, PAGASA's Baguio Synoptic Station recorded an average of 454.3 millimeters of rainfall for the month of October.
This was surpassed in a day, with 454.3 mm of rainfall recorded when Maring hit several areas in Benguet.
Engineer Larry Esperanza, chief of Baguio Synoptic Station, said the weak drainage system could be attributed to the flooding in the area.
Amid Maring's onslaught, three children were killed in a landslide incident in La Trinidad, Benguet, while two adults were also killed in separate landslide incidents in Itogon.
"Malakas ang ulan natin. Wala siyang malabasan na madaling bumaba so naipon siya doon," Esperanza said.
