Cebu residents temporarily living in a school since Odette, receive aid from Kapuso Foundation

Cebu residents who are still yet to find new homes after the onslaught of Typhoon Odette almost a month ago have received aid from the GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to a report on Monday’s “24 Oras,” these individuals have been temporarily sheltered at a school in the municipality of San Fernando for almost a month.

The hall of the school, instead of being filled with students, has now been serving as home to families including that of Marilou Villafuerte, whose house was swept away by the typhoon.

Weeks after the calamity, Villafuerte still can’t erase the worry of how they will be able to stand back up.

“Masakit lang sa damdamin dahil ang lahat ng pinagtrabahuan ng aking anak at asawa ay nawala at nabalewala ba [It hurts because all the work of my husband and my child are gone and washed away],” she said.

At least six families are accommodated in each classroom. This is where they cook, eat and sleep on the floor.

With the Philippine Army’s help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation was able to deliver relief goods to the evacuees and additional 3,200 residents in San Fernando and Consolacion.

There are about 100,000 individuals who were given aid through the foundation’s third wave of “Operation Bayanihan” for those affected by Odette.

The GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, Shopee, GCash, Pay Maya, Zalora, Mega Mart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
