Cop 'shot' Navy vehicle, hurting two personnel in Palawan —PNP

The Philippine National Police on Wednesday said that a cop allegedly shot a vehicle and injured two personnel of the Philippine Navy in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on February 7.

In a statement, the PNP identified the cop as Corporal John Vincent Ugalde.

Ugalde aboard his Black Toyota Wigo vehicle was traversing the North National Highway when a Philippine Navy-owned multicab pulled ahead of him, the PNP said.

Christian Bustillo, a seaman apprentice who was driving the multicab, claimed that he heard continuous blowing of horn from Ugalde. Then, he heard a gunshot that hit the right rear wheel of the multicab.

The Navy vehicle ran out of control and flipped over, hurting the two personnel who sustained minor injuries.

Ugalde surrendered to Police Station 2 of Puerto Princesa Police Office (PPCPO) and turned over his issued firearm, a-9mm Glock 17 with ammunition, according to the PNP.

He will undergo a ballistics examination and paraffin test at the PPCPO Forensic Unit, the PNP added.

PNP Chief General Dionardo Carlos said the police organization’s Internal Service Affairs is already conducting its investigation into the incident.

“The PNP is determined to find out the truth so necessary gathering of evidence is underway. We don’t tolerate rogue acts to flourish in the organization. Our Internal Service Affairs is also conducting an investigation as part of the standard procedure,” he said.

According to Carlos, Ugalde will be subjected to due process. He vowed that the cop will be held accountable if proven that he committed a violation. —LBG, GMA News
