Cops nab 3 for allegedly processing fake vax cards in Cagayan de Oro
Three persons were arrested for allegedly producing and selling fake vaccination cards in Cagayan de Oro City, John Consulta reported on "Saksi."
The suspects allegedly sold the fake cards at P1,500 each to employees who have not been vaccinated but would like to report for work.
The suspects were arrested in an undercover operation conducted by personnel from the Regional Special Operations Unit of the Philippine National Police Region X (RSOU PNP10), other police units and the Department of Health at a printing shop in Cagayan de Oro City.
The team found vaccination cards, that were confirmed by the DOH personnel as counterfeit.
RSOU PNP10 Chief Lt. Col. Vic Cabatingan said an investigation was conducted after a business establishment noticed that their employees have fake vaccination cards.
He related that there are individuals at the City Health Office who offer quick processing of vaccination cards without being vaccinated.
Cagayan de Oro Mayor Oscar Moreno said the local government will investigate the incident.
"I'll look deeper into this. I'll inquire kung may kasabwat pa from other offices. Pero base sa statement ng aming Chief of Police, si Col. Aaron Mandia, acting on the lead that you gave me na mayroong conspiracy, mayroong kasabwat na taga-city hall, ang sagot niya is wala," said Moreno.
The suspects did not give statements. The authorities, meanwhile, confiscated the equipment at the printing shop.
An investigation is ongoing to identify the others involved in the scam as well as the employees who bought fake vaccination cards. GMA News is getting a statement from the City Health Office of Cagayan de Oro. -- BAP, GMA News
