Lawyer shot dead in Sto. Tomas City, Batangas

A lawyer, who was running for a seat in the city council, was shot dead in Sto. Tomas City, Batangas by still unknown assailants inside his office, Andrew Bernardo reported on GMA Regional TV "Balitang Southern Tagalog."

The victim, identified as Atty. Reginald Michael Manito, was shot dead by two suspects who entered his office in Barangay Poblacion on Thursday morning.

"Hindi makatao, walang puso [ang mga salarin]," said Lolita Manito, the mother of the victim.

(Inhuman, (the suspects) have no heart.)

Lolita described her son as kind and helpful and added that she does not know if her son has enemies.

She does not believe that politics is the motive behind the killing of her son.

Lolita said the incident may be connected to his work as a lawyer.

"Because there are people who cannot accept defeat," she said, adding that she is hoping for justice for her son.

Authorities are investigating the incident and to identify the suspects. -- BAP, GMA News
